Shooting at South Carolina noteworthy church

A shooting has been accounted for at a noteworthy dark church in Charleston in the US condition of South Carolina, with various setbacks dreaded. 

US media said the episode happened on Thursday evening at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. 

Charleston police later tweeted that they were hunting down a white male suspect in his 20s after the shooting at 110 Calhoun Street. 

Neighborhood media reported that a coroner had landed at the scene. 

A meeting was going ahead at the season of the shooting at around 21:00 neighborhood time (01:00 GMT Thursday), US media say. 

In a tweet, Charleston police composed: "Suspect in shooting on Calhoun St is a w/m approx 21 slim little form wearing a dark sweat shirt Levi timberland boots clean shaven." 

A man was later seen being driven away by cops, however it was vague whether he was the suspected shooter. 

Helicopters were seen drifting over the range. 

"I will say that this is an unspeakable and tragic disaster in this most notable church," Charleston Mayor Joe Riley was cited as saying by the Post and Courier daily paper. 

A gathering of admirers was later seen imploring close to the congregation. 

"We need some genuine answers now," one of the admirers was heard saying. 

The 19th Century Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church is one of the most established in the US. 

Denmark Vesey - one of the congregation's organizers - was a pioneer of a fizzled slave revolt in 1822.
