US mathematician John Nash, who propelled the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, has passed on in an auto accident with his wife, police have said.
Nash, 86, and his 82-year-old wife Alicia were executed when their taxi smashed in New Jersey, they said.
The mathematician is eminent for his work in diversion hypothesis, winning the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994.
His leaps forward in maths - and his battles with schizophrenia - were the center of the 2001 film.
Russell Crowe, who played him, tweeted: "Staggered... My heart goes out to John & Alicia & crew. An astounding association. Excellent personalities, wonderful hearts."
The film's executive, Ron Howard, additionally tweeted his tribute to the "splendid" John Nash and his "astounding" wife.
Alicia Nash helped tend to her spouse, and the two later got to be noticeable emotional wellness advocates.
The two were tossed from their vehicle, police said. Media reports said the couple might not have been wearing safety belts when they smashed.
Their cab driver, and a traveler in another auto, were likewise harmed.
"Virtuoso"
